Make-up Tip of the week (needing new name) :)

First of all, thank you for all of your fun comments! I loved all the welcome notes to "blogland". (I didn't even know it was called that) :) Everyone seemed pretty interested in learning some new fun tips for makeup, so I thought I would start my "tip of the week", but I am definitely needing a new name. I would love to hear any ideas. It can be anything having to do with cosmetics or a fun rhyme with my name. So....let me know what your ideas are!

Tip of the week:

This weekend, I tuned in to QVC for a little of my favorite, Laura Mercier Beauty. I am not a typical QVC watcher (Actually, I never watch it), but Laura Mercier herself was on there featuring some of her must-have products, and I was very interested to see it. I met her once in Dallas. She doesn't do a lot of public appearances, and is actually very shy. She has a thick French accent, and is a true artist. So, for her to appear on television was kind of a big deal. Anyway, she featured a few of her best selling products, including her Foundation Primer.

If you don't use a primer underneath your makeup, here are a few benefits to adding the extra step:

1) It evens out your skin by filling in large pores and fine lines and wrinkles.

2) It creates a barrier between your skincare and makeup, which keeps your moisturizers and treatments continually working, as well as keep your foundation from clogging your pores or settling in creases.

3) Most importantly is holds on your makeup longer than it normally would, especially in the upcoming hot and humid weather.

Now, for the moms....I know that adding that extra step can be difficult when you don't have much time for yourself, but the best part about it is you won't have to touch up later! Your makeup should last about 6 hours longer than it normally would, so you shouldn't have to re-do your makeup. If you invest in a primer, and take 2 extra seconds to put it on (last product you use before foundation) it will definitely be worth it!

There are also a lot of other benefits to a primer that are listed on her website. I am going to try to talk about all brands of makeup at all different prices ranges. Feel free to ask any questions. I love to help out in a make-up crisis!

Friday will be: Finding the Right Mascara, and Spring Clean your Makeup Bag

  4. Okay, I can already tell the make-up tips will cause me to go bankrupt! The whole time I was reading your tip I was thinking "Oh I've got to get that....Oh I need that....etc.!!!" But you will probably see me soon....seriously. I want to try the make-up primer. You convinced me to buy the eye make-up primer and I was skeptical. Now I love it and feel naked if I forget to use it! See you soon and keep the tips coming!

  7. Hi and welcome. I love the makeup tips also. I was wondering if you have ever heard of face brighteners. I beleive by almay but I could never find it in a store. I had read about it in a magazine in a waiting room but didn't have a pencil that day to write it down. It is supposed to give your skin a nice glow and goes on under foundation also. If so does it really work. Thanks Jennifer in PA

  8. Hi - I came over from Shannon's blog too! She is one of my very favorite blogging pals and we often email about skincare and makeup so perhaps you and I will be good blogging friends! Apparently we alos have the same taste in blog backgrounds! I love Laura Mercier primer. I use the oil-free one and have used it for almost a year and I have noticed a huge difference. I can't wait to hear more of your tips! Have a great weekend!

  9. Did not know there was a primer for faces. I used to just wear make-up to church, but have been so proud of myself for putting on blush, eyeliner, mascara and some Burt's bees lip stuff anytime I leave the house. It may take me a while to work up to a fifth product!

  11. Hi, I have a question regarding primer. I have fairly oily skin and I have tried two primers (one sephora brand and the other bare essencutals) and both made my face break out like crazy! They felt so oily. Can you recommend one for oily, congested skin that won't make it worse?

  12. Hey Nicole...

There is one primer that I know of that would be good for oily/congested skin. It is by "philosophy" and its called "never let them see me shine" primer. You can get it at sephora, or I totally don't mind to send you a sample of it. It is made for skin that tends to be oily and prone to break outs. So...let me know what you think!

  13. Elizabeth,
Thank you VERY much for the information. I so wish I lived around you, but I am all the way out California. It seems a long way to ship a sample of primer. I am going to check Sephora this weekend! Thanks again for the help. Oh, one other question. Does it work under mineral foundation?
